John T. Landry

John T. Landry serves as a consultant specializing in philanthropy and private family foundations. John T. recently retired as Director of Development for the University of Louisiana. He was a charter member of the Greater New Orleans Council of the National Committee on Planned Giving and the Planned Giving Council of Acadiana. John T. currently served as the co-chair of the Leave A Legacy of Acadiana committee and earned the designation of Certified Fund Raising Executive (CFRE). He is also a member of the Association of Christian Development Professionals (ACDP).

A graduate of the University of Louisiana, he holds a bachelor's degree in Economics and served in the United States Marine Corps. A successful automobile dealer for 25 years, Landry received the Louisiana Automobile Dealer Association’s "Dealer of the Year” Award and served on the LADA Board of Directors. After selling his business interests and retiring in 1991, he was hired by his alma mater, the University of Louisiana at Lafayette, to establish its development operation.
 
 Active in professional development activities, he is a member of the Association of Fundraising Professionals and has earned the designation of Certified Fund Raising Executive (CFRE). He is past president of the Planned Giving Council of Acadiana, has presented and consulted on the subject of philanthropy throughout the South and has had his work published in nationally distributed journals. In 2005, after Louisiana suffered devastation from both Hurricanes Katrina and Rita, he was appointed by Louisiana’s Governor to serve as a board member of the Louisiana Recovery Authority.
 
Born in Crowley, Louisiana he has been a resident of Abbeville for over 40 years. He is a past president of the Abbeville Chamber of Commerce, the Abbeville Kiwanis Club, and is a member of the Acadiana Region Board of Directors of Capital One Bank. He has also served as a member of Louisiana’s Board of Commerce and Industry and served UL Lafayette as president of its Alumni Association’s Board of Governors. He has been awarded the Silver Beaver Award for Distinguished Service to Youth awarded by the National Council of the Boy Scouts of America and is a member of the Honor Society of Phi Kappa Phi.

 

A relative newcomer to the world of painting, John T. has exhibited his work around Acadiana. An avid outdoorsman, he enjoys spending time in the marshes near his beloved Pecan Island, Louisiana camp, Marshview Lodge. He is an award-winning photographer and a member of the Lafayette Art Association.
 
John T. and his wife, Sandra, have been married for 43 years and serve their church as Eucharistic ministers. They have two children and six grandchildren.
